What if you gave your fans a country?
It was thanks to Rob Schwartz (@schwartzie14) and his excellent blog metal potential that I discovered this fantastic operation by Nike in Brazil for Sao Paulo’s Corinthians soccer club. To celebrate the club’s 2010 centennary, the club turned its 30 million fans into citizens of the “Republica Popular do Corinthians”. The Corinthians nation had a flag, passports for its citizens, constitutional documents, special currency and even amnesty forms for “refugees” from other clubs to join the Corinthians nation. The Popular Republic ended up electing the club’s biggest fan as its president– this fan just happened to be Lula! The case is above, the ad is below and the site can be found here.
