What if we brought back family lore?
Somewhere between Pearltrees’ storytelling and Genoom’s online family trees lies Storytree, one of the most beautiful ideas I’ve seen this year. Storytree was created to help families (or groups of friends) preserve and share their oral history. Storytree is a collaborative space where each member of the family can add texts, photos, and videos, documenting family history. A series of initial “icebreaking” questions allow the tree to be structured. The family over time will then add their own contributions and answer each others questions to enrich their content. Through sharing experiences and important moments, this site can bring a family together no matter how large or dispersed it may be. This goes to show that the virtual is most useful when it has an impact on our real lives and reinforces our humanity.
