What if the sun could shine through the night?
Thought up by the Zurich-based architectural firm RAFAAA, the Solar City Tower water wall will be a main feature of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, generating electricity day and night. The additional energy produced during the day is used to pump the water into a reservoir whose turbines generate electricity through the night. This central represents the “Sustainable Development” theme of Rio’s 2016 games, it will also power the Olympic Village. What’s more, the wall transforms itself into a giant waterfall, some 105 meters high. At the top of water wall will be a special deck where visitors can see a 360° view of the Bay of Rio.
