What if the Cola Wars went 2.0?
The Cola Wars are back! Heralded yesterday in the New York Times, the Pepsi vs. Coke rivalry has been reignited some 15 years after the initial Pepsi ad ran during the 1995 Superbowl. The original (posted below), where a Pepsi truck driver and a Coke truck driver shake hands and attempt to compare their respective beverages, was an instant classic and sealed the Pepsi vs Coke rivalry. Now Pepsi has returned, using the same director (Joe Ptyka) with a remake created by TBWA\Chiat\Day that compares Pepsi Max to Coke Zero (see above video). When comparative advertising is well done (see my post “What if we went back to the best of comparative advertising?” for other examples), it’s irresitable 😉
